Anet devs - Please read: Faction Idea for PVE players
I am tired of Perfect mods for stalves swords etc... being sold for upwards of 100k
I do not think this is what anet originally intended and so here is my suggestion to fix this problem.
Create a priest of Grenth for pve players to use faction to unlock mods for items (only mods not the items themselves). THis way the pve'rs could have the mods they wanted for their weapons and also have them unlocked for pvp. this would stop the ridiculous prices for said mods and make the game a little more pve friendly as well as tying pvp and pve a little tighter together.
I realize that everyone that has had a perfect rare modded item and salvaged the mod is gonna bitch because they would lose out on money, but this is a reason for pve'rs to play pvp and also something to spend the faction on once they have it to upgrade their char.
This is also kinda like crafting because as long as you have the base item you can make your weapon just how you like it.
Please put some serious thought into this suggestion.

I edited my part of the post the he is referring to because people tend not to look at the main point and get stuck on the examples. *rolleyes*
No offence intended jazzy but I want this to stay on topic.

Yea i think this would be a good idea.. i was thinking about that myself however I think that it should cost more faction if you want to recieve the item instead of just unlock it

I agree that there should be a way to unlock it for PvE, but I don't agree that it should be faction. I find it absurd that I ID an item, unlock it for PvP but fail to salvage it. But, if I wanted to make a PvP character there would be no problem there.
Faction is 'supposed' to be the way that PvP players can avoid the grind of PvE. This past weekend was probably the saving grace as the input seems to be 5 times the amount was much better.
Skills points I would have no problem with trading in for upgrades. Players who constantly play in the UW and FoW are filling up on skillpoints that they will probably never use. 5, 10 skill points for an upgrade? So that would basically be 100,000 or 200,000 exp = 1,000 faction... hmm, hard to say what the balance would have to be.

but while you're at it, make Rares worthy of being RARE. don't know how many golds I've gotten (overall not many since I don't solo), that when identified amount to utter disappointment!! If it's supposed to be Rare then the additional attributes should reflect it....not some whimpy near max dmg bow that's simply +5 Armour versus (??) "10% chance" or "While hexed".....what is that crap??
Or even worse is a purple/gold item - unID'd, that when ID'd is just an item.....no bonus att's nothing...just a plain ole bow/sword/staff.

I feel your pain. I've gotten a "rare" axe- it was so bad that a fresh noob straight out of Ascalon could have easily gotten a better one. Make rares worthy of their title!
And back to the topic... PvE is pretty much shot anyways (at least farther into the game, at any rate) so i think the devs would be better off spending time to enhance our game in other areas.

I'm posting a suggestion, not whining. My suggestion would make faction useful (to some degree) to pve players as well as end the ridiculously inflated market and reduce the need for farming.
I am mostly pvp player myself but I like pve too and having nice stuff while not altogether necessary, is nice. I have seen a grand total of 27k in my bank since the day before official release.
New players get turned off by the obcene prices and farming while fun for the first 10 minutes is grind, and I don't like grind.

Umm ya dude this is what the faction already does, notice he says "it doesn't give you the item." so wtf good is it to unlock it then in pve faction, just take your lazy ass to the arena. And if you really knew wtf you were talking about you would have gotten them all unlocked this weekend anyways.

Evisicator, don't be an illiterate troll. He's talking about trading Faction for the item itself. Not just unlocking it, but posessing it.
I personally like this idea. It'd definately add more items [read: rare mods] to the market, possibly driving prices down, making it easier to aquire the items without PvP. And as a side effect, it'll probably add to the PvP population. Not sure if that'd be good or bad.

I think that this is a great idea: its almost impossible to make a "perfect" pve character with great upgrades etc.. but you can make a pvp character in <1 min and have the best stuff (assuming youve played before).
the faction system should be like you get 1 item (rune, weapon, offhand, shield, mod) at the same cost as Balthazar Faction, except it would be a different one like Dwayna, Melandru, Grenth, or Lyssa, and at level 20, 1000 faction = 5000 exp (??? could be tweaked, just throwing a number out there). Also, lower level items should be available for pve faction at a lower price in towns like ascalon and yaks bend. That way, the new players can work for something as well.

my thoughts exactly, every gold item i've salvaged has been a total dissapointment, mods on most of the "rare" items are complete shit :/ i'm not asking for uber mods, just GOOD ones like health +26-27 or enchants last 18-19% longer or w/e, just not +15% dmg against charr...
edit: btw, after 500 hours of game i think i kinda deserved something good -> you think that ever happened? think again. I had to resort to smite runs in UW in order to make money :/ something a guy that knows how to read a post can do... the point is, instead of creating a solution to grinding, the developers just deleted any long term goals in the game (don't you dare refer to the fissure armor, i'm not waisting 1000k on THAT).

Ya sure, for 500k I'm sure I could buy about anything, but I would have to resort to UW smite runs to do it and that is not fun for me. PVP is fun for me and I would like to use my pve chars in pvp with good gear.
As it is I can recreate my pve chars for pvp with perfect gear but it's not the same as having the gear for your pve char.

yes, I like this idea.. its so easy to get a perfect weapon upgrade through faction but a pain to get one for your pve char you like to pvp with
"the frog" has hinted at a new type of faction
maybe we will see something come the new expansion/the time we see any significant gold sinks/fun stuff for pve chars to do
I suspect it will be a priest of dwayna, and not have any function related to the one suggested by the OP :/

That is false. I know a lot of people who have enough money without farming.
You play PvE -> you get Money and Items.
You sell the items and buy the ones you want.
You play PvP -> you get Faction
You trade the faction for stuff you want.

What stuff does a PvP Char have and a PvE can hardly get it?
Only thing that comes to my mind is +15%>50% swords, axes and hammers.
Allthough I haven't searched collectors for that kind of weapons (I don't need them). But they are not that expensive, 20k maybe (if you buy none gold items ). If you want this weapons added to collectors I will support the idea.
But what else does a PvP char has? Elite Skills are more easily to get through capturing them, runes can be bought and most of them are really cheap.
So I see the only advantage of a PvP char over a PvE char in the flexibility: a PvP char can be anything within a few minutes, a PvE char is more static. But that is how it is supposed to be.
You don't need PvE-Faction - you get Money, which is essentially the same.

The only people that would be against this are the camper buying and selling weapons.
They would have nothing left to do!!!!!!!
EXCEPT PLAY THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!
And if they don't like that? leave. Less lag for us all.

I agree chev.
PVP chars have the ability to mix and match mods to their liking. We as pve chars don't have that luxury.
